About Us
Lynch’s Landing Foundation (LL) is a member of the Virginia Main Street Program and a 2006 winner of the Great American Main Street award. The main street program was organized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to help revitalize the economic vitality of downtown commercial districts using the National Main Street Center's successful Main Street Approach.
The results have been remarkable - new businesses are opening, and investors are putting their money into once vacant buildings; tourists are visiting new shops and restaurants and residents are enjoying renewed community pride. Thousands of jobs have been created and more than $141 million in private money has been invested in Virginia's Main Street Approach. Just in the past 5 years, property values in downtown Lynchburg have increased by $50 million.
Main Street's Four Point Approach:
Design
Enhance the visual quality of downtown by addressing all design elements to create an appealing environment. Lynchburg's downtown has a wealth of historic buildings and an eclectic array of architectural styles. Our art deco buildings can be found in architecture text books. The old train station is now The Depot Grille, and an old shoe factory on Jefferson is now home to the Bluffwalk Center, complete with boutique hotel and two restaurants. Improved signage, seasonal decor, façade improvement grants and seasonal banners make downtown functional and attractive.
Promotion
Create and market a positive image based on the unique attributes of our downtown. Lynch’s Landing works to educate the community on why downtown revitalization makes economic sense, to correct misconceptions of downtown safety, and utilizes all forms of media to spread the word about exciting things that happen downtown. Lynch’s Landing is known for its signature downtown events: Friday Cheers and Holiday Traditions. We highlight all of the cultural amenities which only downtown can offer.
Economic Restructuring
Strengthen downtown's existing economic assets and find new uses for old buildings. What does downtown have to offer to the business owner, to the investor, to the resident? Downtown Walk-abouts and Downtown Forums highlight important changes occurring in downtown and offer people the opportunity to see what it is like to live, work and play downtown.
Organization
Establish consensus and cooperation by building effective partnerships among all downtown stakeholders and the citizens of Lynchburg. Successful downtown revitalization is a collaborative effort. Join a Lynch's Landing committee, become a supporter of downtown and be part of our efforts to revitalize downtown Lynchburg.
