Frequently asked questions

Q: Who’s hosting this?

A: Downtown Lynchburg Association is proud to organize this fireworks display and bring together community businesses. Fireworks have been graciously sponsored by BWX Technologies along with our media partners, WYYD 107.9. Special thanks goes out to the City of Lynchburg for their support in such an endeavor.

Q: Where can I view the fireworks?

A: There are quite a few locations that will boast a great view! We are planning to put up extra resources like restrooms and trash cans at Riverfront Park, but honestly there are a variety of vantage points as you continue up the hill. Keep an eye out for our UPCOMING BLOG with tips on how to plan your night.

Q: Where do I park?

A: Downtown Lynchburg offers free parking on nights and weekends both on-street and in lots! Check out our parking map to locate your best option. Please note that the top floors of Midtown Parking Deck will be unavailable due to the Main Street Renewal project.

Q: What time does it start?

A: The fireworks display will start shortly after dark (approximately 9:15pm). We’d suggest being in your viewing location by 9pm so you can get nice and settled. Be sure to come downtown early to make an evening out of it by shopping at local stores, grabbing a drink from a brewery, and enjoying food from delicious restaurants!

Q: Can I bring my own food?

A: Riverfront Park (and other public areas) will be designated as “picnic-style” meaning that you can bring your own food from home or grab takeout from one of many great downtown restaurants. If you are viewing from a private location (a business or friend’s loft), you will have to check with them.

Q: Can I bring adult beverages?

A: ABC laws may have opened some provisions for takeout drinks at the beginning of the pandemic, but open consumption in public space is still prohibited. Please refrain from bringing alcohol to any public viewing location. DLA will NOT host a beer garden at Riverfront Park, so if you would like to partake in adult beverages we suggest either finding a downtown restaurant with a view, snagging an invitation to a downtown residence, or enjoying one or two before the show. Check out our Dine and Drink sections to find the right establishment for you.

Q: Can I bring my dog?

A: You might not believe us, but we really DO love dogs at Downtown Lynchburg Association. Like, a lot. So much, in fact, that we realize bright lights, loud noises, and crowds can be really scary for these four-legged friends. With that in mind, we ask you to leave Fido at home (preferably in a thunder shirt with a kong and some soothing music in the background).

Q: What do I do with my garbage?

A: If you choose to snag a spot on the grass in Riverfront Park, we will have plenty of extra trash cans set up for your use. Otherwise, the City of Lynchburg has permanent cans throughout downtown. If you still cannot find a receptacle for your litter, simply pack it back up with you and dispose of it at home. After all, leaving behind trash is just simply trashy.

Q: Will there be restrooms?

A: YES! Downtown Lynchburg Association will provide extra portable toilets and hand washing stations at Riverfront Park for your use.

Q: What else is there to do in Downtown Lynchburg?

A: OH SO MUCH! We have lots of events listed on our calendar and some great attractions. You could climb an indoor wall at Rise Up Climbing or rent a bike at Bikes Unlimited for a ride on the trail. Looking to relax? Visit museums and galleries or pamper yourself with a spa visit!

Q: How do I get more involved with Downtown Lynchburg Association?

A: Stay in-the-know by following us on Facebook and Instagram or sign up for our newsletter. DLA is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Learn more about who we are, what we do, and why you should consider becoming a monthly donor.
