On Thursday, October 11th, Jake Barton will be hosting Lynchburg’s first Community Story Slam at the White Hart!
What: Story Slams are essentially spoken-word open-mic events — a chance to speak your truth and share what’s on your mind in the form of a story. If this sounds appealing (and we hope it does!) here are our requirements for storytellers: a.) that your story is around five minutes in length, b.) that your story is true-ish and about you in some fundamental way, and c.) that it speaks to our theme, which for the 11th will be “Close Calls."
Who: You! Bring yourself, a story, a friend, and your listening ears. If you’d like to tell a story, you can drop your name in a hat on your way in and we’ll call out tellers at random. If you’d like just to listen, that’s wonderful too.
Why: Because stories are the life-blood of the world! What better way to get to know one another than this.
When: October 11th, 8:00 pm
Questions, Comments, Concerns?: If you’re curious for more info, or for guidance as you craft your stories, please email jbarton@holderness.org, or check out themoth.org for story examples, from which this concept is borrowed.
