Job Descriptions

Program Intern

DLA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Program Intern to support various initiatives and projects that enhance the vibrancy of our downtown community. This internship is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event planning and nonprofit administration while contributing to meaningful projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of community events, volunteer initiatives, and business engagement activities.
  • Provide on-site support during events, ensuring smooth execution of activities and addressing real-time needs.
  • Assist with post-event breakdown, cleanup, and debrief sessions to evaluate successes and areas for improvement.
  • Assist with vendor applications for all events, communicate with business owners regarding event logistics, and help coordinate volunteers before and during events.
  • Support planning and documentation for upcoming grant initiatives, including the Facade Improvement Grant and Launch LYH.
  • Proofread and ensure accuracy and consistency in written materials, reports, and promotional content.

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in progress in Business, Communications, Event Management, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for event planning, community engagement, or nonprofit management.
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks.
  • Familiarity with Downtown Lynchburg is a plus.

Schedule

Approximately 15 hours per week, primarily business hours, with some evening or weekend availability required for event support. We are willing to work with class schedules.

Compensation

Compensation will be provided upon successful completion of the internship.

Marketing Intern

DLA is looking for a Marketing Intern to help bring our events and programs to life through digital content, branding, and promotional strategies. This is a hands-on opportunity to build your portfolio, gain real-world marketing experience, and make a lasting impact on our city.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating content for social media, email campaigns, and the DLA website.
  • Capture and edit photos and videos for social media and promotional materials.
  • Support event promotion and community outreach efforts.
  • Assist with organizing existing photo and video content.
  • Design simple graphics and promotional materials.
  • Write blog posts and website updates.
  • Support branding efforts for events and programs.
  • Conduct research on marketing strategies and best practices.
  • Assist with media outreach and press releases.
  • Collaborate with the team on creative campaign ideas.

Desired Qualifications

  • A college student or recent graduate studying Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation.
  • Basic design skills in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (a plus!).
  • Passion for downtown communities, small businesses, and event marketing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
