Al Ryan

817 1/2 Main Street

Must-Try Item: Appetizer Sampler Platter

Choices are hard, especially when you’re hungry! So, you could either narrow it down with a speed-round of eeny-meeny-miny-moe, or you could just get the sampler platter that includes hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh, and falafel. Served with a side of pita chips, we won’t judge you if you decide not to share. Check out their full menu here but remember, you’ve been warned.

Batter Bar

1103 Church Street

Must-Try Item: Peach & Prosciutto Crepe

Harajuku Crepes. You might ask,”Are those French or Japanese?” The answer is YES! Either way, we’re suckers for the blend of savory and sweet in the peach and prosciutto crepe. Honey ricotta and peach jam balance out the saltiness of the pork and tang of the balsamic reduction. But, honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of their handheld creations (menu) designed for your next stroll around downtown.

So, set your Saturday alarm and be sure to make it down to the Lynchburg Community Market because the Cupboard Cafe is only open one day a week!

Ploughcroft Tea Room

1215 Commerce Street

Must-Try Item: Scone with devon cream

Armed with a cookbook full of family recipes from across the pond and shelves full of cups & saucers, the Ploughcroft Tea Room is the place to be for authentic English fare. We never knew how delicious tiny open-faced sandwiches could be, but the true star of the show is the clotted cream imported from the U.K. in hermetically sealed containers. Don’t fret if you can’t steal away for a relaxing afternoon tea, there are plenty of pot pies, tarts, and pastries to choose from on their lunch menu, too!

Rendez-Vous

1125 Main Street

Must-Try Item: Escargot À la bourgignonne

Where else in Downtown Lynchburg can you order snails as an appetizer? Don’t make that face…you can blame the French for this garlicky, buttery delicacy. But in all seriousness, Rendez-Vous’ menu perfectly balances the intricacies of French culinary staples with the bold flavors of the Caribbean. While you are dining, be sure to take advantage of a variety of photo-worthy backdrops around the building.

Must-Try Item: Sabich Wrap Combo

Once you get past how fun the word “sabich” is to say, you will realize that this wrap is packed with yummy items like hummus, eggplant, hard-boiled egg, chickpea salad, pickled red onion, tahini sauce, and hot sauce for a little kick. But let’s be real - the unexpected star of the show is the serving of crispy french fries that comes with your combo. And, if you’re trying to avoid bread, you can customize rice or salad bowls with tons of toppings. Check it out and order online!
