In an effort to promote the support of local restaurants, we have created a pop-up Takeout Patio in the Birch Grove area of Riverfront Park, directly beside The Depot Grille. As restaurants continue to experience limited seating capacity, DLA wants to spread the message that supporting local restaurants through takeout is still needed to help them stay strong. The creation of the Takeout Patio is aimed at providing a beautiful place for area residents to enjoy food from their favorite downtown spots.
The Takeout Patio includes new brightly-colored bistro seating, picnic tables, and whimsical decor. All tables are spaced at least 10-feet apart, and the patio includes signage on how to safely visit and enjoy the space. DLA asks area citizens to use the space responsibility, making sure to keep groups to less than ten, keep an appropriate distance between other park-goers, use provided cleaning supplies to wipe down tables when needed, and to wash hands before and after vitising. DLA staff, volunteers, and partners will clean and reset the space each morning.
The Birch Grove is located directly beside The Depot Grille and is adjacent to the Riverwalk Trail, including shade trees, benches, and bike racks. It was built in 2007 as a part of the first phase of improvements laid out in the 2000 Lynchburg Downtown & Riverfront Master Plan.
The City of Lynchburg, The Depot Grille, The Water Dog, and Vector Space all helped to make this project happen.
