Summer in Lynchburg is not complete without Fireworks on the Riverfront! We are thrilled to welcome friends and families to Downtown Lynchburg on Friday, July 5, for our 4th year hosting this FREE event. Visitors can expect food, music, and activities to kick off at 6:00 PM at Riverfront Park with the fireworks show beginning just after dark – approximately 9:00 PM.

Due to Riverfront Park construction for the new amphitheater, the City of Lynchburg has allowed us to utilize half of the park as well as the adjacent Riverfront Parking Lot for the event. See more information below regarding additional watch zones, family activities, food trucks, and parking.

Fireworks on the Riverfront is brought to you by our title sponsor, BWX Technologies, with additional support from Genworth Financial, Gentry Locke Attorneys, Academy Center of the Arts, City of Lynchburg, and our event media partners ABC 13 - WSET, 1079 WYYD, and 96.3 WROV.

🎶 Riverfront Park construction

Wait! Isn’t the park going to be under construction? Yes, Riverfront Park will be under construction this summer to prepare for the new amphitheater. Fortunately, a portion of the park will be available for our event festivities. Additionally, our event footprint will include the Riverfront Parking Lot adjacent to the park. This means that attendees may have to sit on the blacktop in the parking lot area to view the fireworks. We recommend bringing lawn chairs and planning accordingly to ensure your comfort during the event.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL EVENING:

Before the Event:

  • Arrive Early: With 5,000+ people expected, parking and good viewing spots will fill up quickly. Aim to arrive at least a couple of hours before the fireworks start.

  • Check the Weather: Keep an eye on the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Bring an umbrella or poncho if rain is predicted, and wear layers in case the evening gets cooler.

  • Plan Your Parking: Research available parking options in advance. Consider parking a bit further away and walking to the park to avoid congestion. Limited handicapped spaces will be available on Jefferson Street.

  • Public Transportation: If possible, use public transportation or rideshare services to avoid the hassle of parking.

During the Event:

  • Find a Good Spot: Scout the area for a comfortable spot with a clear view of the sky. Bring blankets or portable chairs for seating.

  • Stay Hydrated: Bring plenty of water, especially if it's a hot day. There will be food vendors, but having your own supply is always a good idea.

  • Pack Snacks: Bring snacks or a picnic dinner. While there will be food vendors, lines can be long, and it’s nice to have your own options.

  • Stay Informed: Follow event updates on social media or through the event's website. This will keep you informed of any changes or important announcements.

  • Entertainment and Activities: Enjoy the pre-fireworks entertainment, such as live music, games, and other activities. Engage in these to make the most of your time.

After the Event:

  • Be Patient: Expect delays when leaving. With so many people, it will take time for the area to clear out. Stay calm and enjoy the moment.

  • Leave No Trace: Dispose of your trash properly. Respect the park and help keep it clean for everyone to enjoy.

  • Safe Travel Home: Ensure you have a safe way to get home. If you’re driving, be cautious of increased pedestrian traffic.
