KNOW BEFORE YOU GO…
Parking
Downtown Lynchburg offers free on-street and lot parking on nights and weekends! Download our parking map to find your best spot. Note: Riverfront Lot will be closed for the event. Limited handicap parking is available on Jefferson Street and in all City lots.
Riverfront Park Construction
Wait—Isn’t the park under construction?
Yes! Riverfront Park will be under construction this summer for the new amphitheater, but part of it will still be open for our event. We’ll also be using the adjacent Riverfront Parking Lot.
What does that mean for you?
You might be watching fireworks from a parking lot—so bring chairs (not just blankets) for the whole family!
TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL EVENING
Before the Event:
Arrive Early: With 2,000 - 3,000 people expected, parking and good viewing spots will fill up quickly. Aim to arrive at least a couple of hours before the fireworks start.
Check the Weather: Keep an eye on the weather forecast and dress appropriately. It is going to be HOT so remember to bring lots of water and sunscreen. Bring an umbrella or poncho if rain is predicted.
Plan Your Parking: Research available parking options in advance. Carpool if possible! Limited handicapped spaces will be available on Jefferson Street.
Public Transportation: If possible, use public transportation or rideshare services to avoid the hassle of parking.
During the Event:
Stay Informed: Follow event updates on social media or through the event's website. This will keep you informed of any changes or important announcements.
Find a Good Spot: Scout the area for a comfortable spot with a clear view of the sky. Bring portable chairs for seating. Blankets may not be comfortable in certain areas of the park.
Beat the Heat: Bring plenty of water, especially if it's a hot day. There will be food vendors, but having your own supply is always a good idea. Bring sunscreen for protection and you are welcome to bring umbrellas for shade but they must be taken down during the fireworks display. Or, stake out your spot and then take the kids to visit Amazement Square, which will be open until 8pm!
Pack Snacks: Bring snacks or a picnic dinner. While there will be food vendors and restaurants, lines can be long, and it’s nice to have your own options.
Know the rules. Make sure to follow all City of Lynchburg park rules (scroll to bottom of page to view).
After the Event:
Be Patient: Expect delays when leaving. Although we have taken steps to reduce the exit time this year, with so many people, it will take time for the area to clear out.
Leave No Trace: Dispose of your trash properly. Respect the park and help keep it clean for everyone to enjoy.
Safe Travel Home: Ensure you have a safe way to get home. If you’re driving, be cautious of increased pedestrian traffic.
